By connecting your Catenda Account to Microsoft teams, you will be able to receive your Catenda notifications as separate messages in a Microsoft teams channel.
Catenda notifications in a teams channel can look something like this:
This article contains information about the following topics
Linking Microsoft Teams to Catenda with a webhook
To start out linking your Catenda notifications to Microsoft Teams you will want to generate a webhook URL on Microsoft teams.
You can then either enter the generated URL into the account notification settings page to send all your account notifications to a Microsoft Teams channel.
You can also enter the generated URL on the project specific notifications page to get all notifications sent to your account from that project into a Microsoft Teams channel
To generate a webhook URL on Microsoft Teams, follow the steps below.
Generating a webhook URL on Microsoft Teams
To create a channel in a team in Microsoft Teams, you will need at least Teams for Small Businesses or Teams for Enterprise.
Creating a team
To be able to create a channel you will first have to create or join a team.
You will be able to do so by clicking on the plus button in the left panel.
Enter a name and create the team.
When you create your team you automatically get a channel called general.
If you want to use this channel you can skip the next step.
Creating a Channel
If you are an owner or a member of a team you will be able to create a channel in the team by clicking on the + and clicking on Create channel.
Note: With guest or external access you will not be able to create channels.
In this case, please ask a channel administrator to configure the webhook for you.
After clicking on Create channel you will see the following dialogue
Give your channel a name and optional description.
The type of the channel has to be standard as shared and private channels do not allow connectors.
Adding a Webhook Connector to your channel
After creating your channel it can look something like this:
To start receiving notifications in a teams channel you will have to install a webhook connector. In Microsoft Teams connectors can be installed in channels by going to the channel settings.
To go to the channel settings hover over the channel and click on the hamburger menu (the three dots)
Here you can click on manage channel
In the Settings tab of the channel management area you will be to click on edit towards the bottom of the page to edit the connectors that can post to this channel.
After clicking on edit the connector management dialogue will open up.
Here you can search for Incoming to find the Incoming Webhook connector.
Configuring your webhook connector
If you have clicked on add either in the connector list or on the connector page you will be asked to set up the connector.
The Incoming Webhook connector enables external services to notify you about activities that you want to track.
Name
Give your connector a name and click create to generate a webhook URL that can be used in Catenda.
Upload image
If you want to add an image for your webhook you can upload an image here.
The connector will look like a user posting messages in the channel. This image will show up where the profile picture of the user usually shows up.
When you click on upload image you can either choose an image on your system or link to an image URL. A good URL to input here is https://hub.catenda.com/img/logo-192x192.png to get the Catenda logo as profile picture for your incoming webhook connector
Create
Click on ‘create’ to create the webhook.
After clicking on create a URL will appear below the upload image area.
Copy the URL that was generated either by selecting it and copying it or by clicking on the copy button.
You can now scroll down and click done.
As mentioned at the beginning of this article the URL you have now copied can be pasted into the account notification settings page or the project specific notifications page to start the sending and receiving of notifications in your teams channel.
After configuring the connector you will see a message in your channel that can look something like this:
Notification behavior
To confirm that the connection is working you will have to receive a Catenda notification.
A good way to do this is by downloading multiple documents or exporting a topic to get a 'your export is ready' notification. Note that if you create a topic only other people will get a notification and not yourself as you are the one creating the topic. You could also have someone else create a topic in a topic board you have access to to get a notification.
After you have received the notification you should quickly get a notification in your teams channel as well.
As you can see from the image above the connector can look a lot like a team member posting something, especially if you have changed the picture for the connector.
To see if a message was posted by a connector or not you can click on its profile picture which will give some detailed information about what the connector can do.
Connector management
To configure the Incoming Webhook Connector after it has been created you can once again click on the hamburger menu of the channel (the three dots) like in the creation steps.
Here you can click create to generate a new link or change the image and name of the webhook.
