Document preview tools

When the preview page of a filetype that can be previewed is first opened the following toolbar is displayed towards the top.

If the browser scale is set to a medium size or a medium screen size is used the menus can overflow into an action menu:


If the browser scale is set to a large size or a small screen size is all the menus can appear in a dropdown menu like so:

Menu

This is wat the toolbar menu can look like:

Download Enter Full Screen Save As Print Settings


Download

Click on Download to download the document with any annotations that are active in the document preview.

Enter Full Screen

Click on Enter Full Screen to open only the document preview and toolbar in fullscreen.

Press escape or open the same menu again to find the Exit Full Screen button.

Save As

With the Save As menu any previewable 2D filetype can be saved as a reconstructed file.

The Save As dialogue can look something like this:

File name

Enter the name the saved file will receive.

File Type

Save any previewable 2D filetype as either a PDF (*.pdf) or PNG (*.png)

Page Range

Choose which pages to include.

The options include:

All - Default

Save all pages

Specify Pages

Save specific pages by page number separated by comma or with a dash to save a range of pages like for exampe (1, 3, 5-10).

Current page

Save only the current page

Properties

Include annotations - Default

Include a separate page in the downloaded document with an overview of the annotations on the document and their contents.

Include Comments

Include a separate page in the downloaded document with an overview of the comments on the document and their contents.

​Print

Click on Print to open the Print Settings dialogue.

The Print Settings dialogue can look something like this:

General

Language

The language setting follows the language setting of your browser and not the language setting on Catenda.

Keyboard Shortcuts

In the keyboard shortcuts menu an overview over the available keyboard shortcuts can be found.

Click on the action button for each shortcut to bind the shortcut to a different keystroke.

Advanced Settings

In the Advanced Settings menu different settings can be enabled and disabled.

The view controls menu can look something like this:


Marquee zoom

This is what the document zoom icon can loook like:


With document zoom selected click anywhere in the document to zoom in that direction.

You can also click and drag to mark a part of the document you would like to zoom to.
Hold Control or Command to zoom out instead.

You will see your curson change to a looking glass with a + or - indicating your zoom direction.

Zoom percentage

Click the zoom percentage to open the zoom percentage menu.

The zoom percentage meny can look something like this:


​Fit to width

Fit the document to cover the entire width of the document preview

Fit to page

Fit the document to display the whole current page you are on in the document preview.

Increase and decrease zoom

Click on the plus and the minus buttons next to the zoom percentage to go up/down a level.

Pan

This is what the pan button can look like:

If you are zoomed in so the document goes past the document preview border you will be able to click and drag with the pan tool to move to a different part of the document.

Shortcut: (P)

Also hold space to pan.

Letting go of space will select your previous tool once more.

Select

This is what the select button can look like:

Shortcut: (Esc)

Click and drag to select annotation elements within one page at a time.

Annotation menus

By default the view menu will be selected.

Selecting any of the other annotation menus will open up a second toolbar below the document toolbar.

You will be able to find the following menus:

View menu

Selecting the view menu will activate the select tool and hide the annotation toolbar.

This menu can be useful to select if you need more space on the page.

Annotate menu

This is what the annotation menu tools can look like:

The annotate menu opens a toolbar with the following tools:

Underline - Shortcut: (U)

Highlight - Shortcut: (H)

Rectangle - Shortcut: (R)

Free Text - Shortcut: (T)

Free Hand Highlight

Color presets

If you are zoomed very far in or are on a small screen you might not see this menu.

Select one of the color presets to open the color preset menu.

The color preset menu might look different depending on which tool you have selected.

Scale font size dynamically - Default unchecked

By default the font size is set to 12.

With that font size, your text might exceed the boundaries of the callout box.

The text that gets clipped away can only be read by downloading the document and inspecting the annotation element in a pdf authoring tool.

If you want your text to always be visible you can check this box and the font size will become larger or smaller depending on your box size and amount of text so your text always fits.

Color presets

Insert menu

Image - Shortcut: (I)

Select the image tool and click anywhere in the document to add an image at that location.

Examples of images that are inserted include:

  • Generated information with metadata.
    In some workflows images are generated with information about the user that looked at the document along with some information like the date and their field of study.

  • A personal or company logo.
    In some cases the logo of a company is inserted as an image to indicate that this company has had a look at the document.

  • A personal signature
    Sometimes this is a scan of a hand-written signature, other times it can be a digitally generated signature.

  • A personal stamp.
    In some cultures stamps are preferred instead of signatures

After clicking on the insert location on the the system file explorer will open up.

Navigate to the image that is to be inserted and choose it.

After choosing the image it will be placed at the specifield location.

While the image might include a signature that might even be digitally generated the chosen image is inserted as a bitmap image that is not cryptographically protected by a private key to form an electronic signature.

Select the placed image to:

Move - Drag on the image

Scale - Drag on the corner of the image

Rotate - Drag on the rotation handle

Duplicate - Hold alt and drag on the image to duplicate it

Delete - Click on the trashcan or press delete to delete the image

Measure menu

This is what the measure menu tools can look like:

Scale menu

When you open the distance menu you will see the following scale menu toward the right of the document preview.

Scale - Default 0.250 in = 1.000 in

Click on the scale dropdown to see any custom scales you have created in this browser session or to add a new scale.

Add New Scale

New scales are availablein the scale dropdown in any document in any project during a users browses session and will have to be re-configured after a page refresh.
This is what the add new scale menu can look like:

Custom
Click on Calibrate to calibrate the new scale.

Select two points in the drawing and enter a known amount of units.

Paper units - The unit amount on the paper
Display units - The unit amount that will be displayed

Preset
Click on the dropdown to select from a number of preset scales ranging from 1:10 to 1:1000

Precision
The amount of numbers after the decimal you want to display

Fractional units.

Toggle this toggle to display measurement amounts in fractional units instead.



Distance

After selecting the distance tool, click and drag in the document to measure from the location you clicked to the location where you release your mouse button.

Click on the style menu to open the styling for the distance tool.

This is what the Distance tool style menu can look like:

Colors

Click on a color to change the distance measurement color

Click on show more to show more default colors.

Click on the plus button to add a configured color.

Clcik on the trashcan to remove a color.

Click on the duplicate button to duplicate a color

Stroke

Drag the stroke slider or type in a vlaue to change the width of your measure line.

Opacity

Drag the opacity slider or type in a percentage value to change the opacity of your measure line.

Style

Change the look of the arrows and line styling of your measure line.

Enable snapping for measurement tools.

Check this box to enable or disable snapping for measurement tools.

Tools available in all annotation menus

This is what the tools that are available in all menus can look like:

Undo - Shortcut: (Ctrl + z)

Click undo to undo your previous action

Redo - Shortcut: (Ctrl + y)

Click redo to redo your previous action

Eraser - Shortcut: (E)

Select the erasor tool to erase any elements you have created.

Document search

If you click on the looking glass towards the right you will be able to open the document search menu.


Type a phrase to start searching within the searchable text of your document.
